Focusing on my strengths and my past experience, I have been fortunate enough and was promoted to Digital Producer acting as a project manager between internal stakeholders and contractors. My role will now entail driving our key deliverables with our internal team and managing contractors to deliver outstanding and high quality work while meeting the client deadlines and budgets. Connecting with people with tenacity and empowering people as I move along is where my focus is now.
Shortly after relocating to Vancouver, Canada I joined Skyrocket Digital as an Account Strategist. Skyrocket Digital is an Agile Creative Agency which focuses on creating and crafting beautiful brands, building and online presence and helping businesses grow and transform through digital marketing and powerful strategies. This was a completely foreign role to me but luckily I had a small amount of experience in the branding and web development industry which helped me onboard quickly. In this role I learnt how to work with many different digital tools and frameworks giving us the power to help our clients move deliverables across the line and on time.
During this short period of time of owning my own business and representing myself as a personal brand and coach. I helped 50+ individuals launch their business idea and dream and assisted a few existing small businesses with branding and improving their online presence. Here are few projects I worked on:
FYBOTECH Distributors is a technology distribution company formerly known as VastraTech (worked at for 6 years prior) I was brought on to assist this new company with in the group of companies with Importing and Exporting to 13 countries across Africa, Procurement from various International suppliers and improving the operations and processes within the business. I managed 4 key team members including warehouse manager. As part of the role I assisted with creating and updating the price lists, managing stock control and import certificates, negotiating with suppliers and producing reports for all stakeholders.
There was a need to help resource manage and assist the designers with support on their projects, Thus I was promoted to Traffic Manager, a role in an Agency that basically manages the input and output of work. Moving from a Project Management seat to Traffic Manager was quite a shift and through this experience and working closely with the designers I really started to love the creative and design process. I left Design Partnership as I was head hunted to join my old company (VastraTech) who was starting a new company within the group called FYBOTECH Distributors.
I stumbled upon Design Partnership an International Award-Winning Interior Design Agency and man did I love working at this company. The vibes in the office and working in an Agency environment was awesome and different to what I was used too. I started out as Project Coordinator and was promoted to Senior Project Coordinator after one year. I was the "right-hand man" to the Project Managers assisting them with project sheets, project timelines, documentation, contracting and sourcing suppliers, updating costing sheets and working with the finance department to ensure profits and project budgets were met.
After 6 years at VastraTech I decided to take that leap of faith at the age of 25 years old and start my own business. I started a Logistics and services business and acted as a broker between my clients and the freight forwarders. I helped individuals ship their products locally and internationally within Africa. Even though my journey was short lived due to cash flow reasons, I don't regret anything I did as this was the start of my biggest learning experience. I managed to do my own books all the way up to trial balance, my business was imports/exports registered with an amazing online presence (Social Media, Website and beautiful brand identity) I did it all and plus my service was amazing. Even at a young age it is amazing what you can learn and how you can adapt. If I had rewind and change anything, I would have found a business mentor early on who could have mentored and coached me as this would have helped me avoid potential risks and mistakes.
From March 2010 I was asked to join the Financial Manager as the Procurement and Logistics Manager to assist with all international ordering from suppliers (SMART, Canada & NEC Europe) and handle all imports and exports, warehousing, stock management, import certificates and licenses. It was a privilege to manage a storeman and driver in this position and I enjoyed training and growing my team members to be the best version of themselves. Managing people taught me a lot of skills and how to be patient and understanding.
My first taste of the "working world" I started at VastraTech, a SMART Distributor who distributed interactive technology products within Southern Africa. Straight after high school I started and hit the ground running. Shortly after a few months I was promoted to Junior Logistics Coordinator, and after a few months I started to love business and find ways to learn other aspects of the business, I then joined the sales team as an Internal Sales Support person which gave me the insights needed to grow and learn the products and services. I was then promoted to an Channel Account Manager position where I was responsible for looking after the reseller network, focusing on sales, reporting, training and support on the products.
